Vox Possible have been together since 2010 and hail from The People’s Republic (that’s Cork to those who don’t know, but everyone knows that, right?).
The band is made up of Chris Joyce (Bass/Sound Manipulator), Luke Waldron (Drums), Paul Kennedy (Guitars/Stuff) and Andrew Ryan (Guitars). They describe themselves as an instrumental-dance-rock quartet but I think they are underestimating their sound. Having listened to their double A sided single, possibly 10 times in a row, I can only conclude that they are an instrumental-dance-rock-blasting-fun noise machine. Not only do the songs have a heavy mixture of guitars, drums and bass, it makes you want to dance too.
The first song, Eyes for the Boys, off their debut single, has a Southern American vibe to it with a such an amount of guitar layers that some riffs didn’t jump out to me until after a couple of listens. Sneaky boys, real sneaky. You can hear their main influences through out the song. Imagine if you will a Come Dine with Me with The Prodigy raiding through your knicker closet while Mars Volta downs the shandy, with Kyuss complaining that the veg wasn’t cooked right, and Adebisi Shank licking the bowl after the dessert is finished all along Queens of the Stone Age (early stuff that is) are passed out on your couch after too much whiskey or as I like to call it, Prodarsyusshankage Dine With Me…..No? Fine.
The second song, Big Boy Beastie, to me had an early Muse feeling to it. Again I think it was the heavy guitars, and the more I listened to the song, the more I could visualize a story unfolds in my head. Now it might be different to what the lads imagine for the song but that’s something to discuss over pints soon.
Vox Possible are playing in The Blind Pig, Limerick this Thursday 29th of March with fellow Corkonians, Ladydoll. Do go check them out. You won’t be disappointed. Bold statement? Yes! Goods to back it up? Hell Yes!
